What is a Satellite Based Toll Collection System How To Work it which Nitin Gadkari Announced

You will no longer have to get stuck in traffic jams at toll plazas on all highways in the country, because the toll plaza system is now being shut down. Union Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari announced the closure of the toll plaza system on Friday (26 August). Also, he said that satellite based toll collection system is going to be implemented in the country. Let us know what is satellite based toll collection system? How will it work and how will money be deducted directly from the bank account?

What is satellite based toll collection system?

Till now, vehicles had to stop at the toll plaza to pay toll. This used to require a lot of manpower. At times, there used to be heavy traffic jams. After the introduction of Fastag, there was a reduction in manpower, but the problem of traffic jams persisted due to server problems. Now in the satellite based toll collection system, the toll will be deducted through the tracking system installed in the car. For this, the satellite itself will calculate the distance covered by the car and the toll will be deducted accordingly. This system is being called satellite based toll collection system or GPS based toll collection system.

How will this system work?

The satellite based toll collection system will work with the help of OBU i.e. on-board unit installed in the car. With the help of this OBU, the satellite will track the distance covered by the car. Let us tell you that for this new system, OBU will have to be installed in the car. This OBU will collect every detail of the car, which will be shared by the cameras installed on the highway with the satellite, after which the toll tax will be deducted from the satellite itself. In this system, you will have to keep money in the wallet linked to OBU. At present, OBU is not available in cars, which will have to be installed from the market. It is believed that after the implementation of this toll system, OBU will start coming pre-installed in cars.

What will be the benefit of this system?

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari claims that this is the first toll collection system of its kind in the world, in which GPS based technology is being used. With the implementation of the new toll collection system, drivers will not have to stop at the toll. This will neither cause traffic jams on the highway nor will people’s time be wasted. It is believed that this system will make traveling even easier.
